To get the very best from your BYEWT LONDON candles and reed diffusers — the truest expression of each scent, and a long life for every piece — a little care goes a long way.
Candle care
Before your first burn
Trim the wick to 5mm before lighting. This keeps the flame steady and prevents excess soot from clouding the glass.
The first burn matters most
Let the wax melt across the entire surface on your first burn — ideally 2 to 3 hours. This creates an even “memory ring” and helps prevent tunnelling in every burn after.
While it's burning
Keep candles away from drafts, out of reach of children and pets, and never leave a burning candle unattended. Burn on a heat-resistant surface, away from anything flammable.
Burn time
For the best experience, we recommend burning for no longer than 3 to 4 hours at a time. This protects the vessel and keeps the fragrance performing at its best.
Between burns
Always trim the wick before relighting, and keep the wax pool free of debris — wick trimmings, matches, or dust can affect the burn.
When you're finished
Extinguish with a wick dipper or snuffer where possible, rather than blowing it out, to avoid scattering hot wax and reduce smoke.
A final touch
Once your candle is finished, the vessel makes a beautiful home for flowers, brushes, or small treasures — a small way to keep a little BYEWT LONDON in your space.
Reed diffuser care
How to use
Remove the stopper and place the reeds in the bottle. Allow a little time for the reeds to draw up the fragrance and begin scenting the room. No flame is needed.
Refreshing the scent
Turn the reeds over every week or so to revive the fragrance. Using more reeds gives a stronger scent, while fewer reeds will keep it softer.
Where to place it
Choose a spot with gentle airflow, such as a hallway, bedroom or bookshelf. Keep it away from direct sunlight, radiators and other heat sources, which can make the fragrance fade faster.
Protecting your surfaces
Fragrance oil can mark wood, paint and some plastics. Stand your diffuser on a coaster or tray, and let any excess drip back into the bottle when turning the reeds.
Preserving your diffuser
Keep the bottle upright and away from open flames. If you're not using it or are moving it, replace the stopper to prevent spills and keep the fragrance from evaporating. Store somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight.
Safety
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not ingest. If the oil touches your skin or eyes, rinse well with water.
When you're finished
Once the fragrance has faded, dispose of the reeds and wash the bottle thoroughly before giving it a second life as a small vase or keepsake.
